How do we improve resilience with limited maintenance budgets and a constantly shifting fiscal landscape? Ongoing resiliency planning work conducted by road authorities to assess risk to our highway network and the increasing occurrences of significant weather events provide a clear understanding of how our assets are responding to these events. Recognizing the growing risks from extreme weather, proactive investment in highway resilience demands a systems-based approach to address complex, cascading impacts. With limited resources and an expansive transportation network, strategically prioritizing maintenance and capital programs is critical to strengthening resilience and improving disaster response.
