Emissions and aerosols from bitumen in hot asphalt mixtures can be harmful to the health of the paving workers. As a preventive measure an occupational exposure limit value (OEL) of 1.5 mg/m³ has been set in Germany for these emissions when paving hot asphalt mixtures.
